The contents of my discussion questions for my classmates were the strongest part throughout my lesson. Firstly, I was able to prepare three materials about fashion that had noticeable features of semiotics. I wanted my classmates to find semiotics in fashion because I guessed they had not considered about it.
I wondered that fashion was associated with semiotics deeply. It contains some kinds of sign, symbol, icon and index. In addition, fashion reflects on culture, society or people’s thinking at that time, so it has a role as media. However, the way of interpreting depends on people’s background. People use fashion when they judge a person or group non-verbally. I felt that means fashion works as a part of communication. In this way, I considered about a relationship between fashion and semiotics.
Thereby, I needed to find good materials that I could tell classmates about my ideas and they could notice them easily. Even though I was able to discover and compose them, some classmates discussed about my questions and presented me with their ideas eagerly while others couldn’t understand my intention.
Therefore, Further explanation was one of the weakest points in my lesson. I should have told them that where there are icon, symbol and index in fashion beforehand. That would have become easier to think about my topics. I had no idea whether I should had explained my opinions to what extent. Besides, I forgot to do eye contact frequently.
I want to consider about my lesson again. Because fashion includes many kinds of semiotics and people know the meaning through media, it is worth thinking over.
